Appendix

The appendix is a small, finger-shaped pouch attached to the large intestine. It is located in the lower right side of the abdomen. The function of the appendix is not well understood, but it is believed to play a role in the immune system by storing and producing white blood cells, as well as helping to protect the body against infections.

While the appendix was once thought to be a vestigial organ with no purpose, recent research suggests that it may actually have some beneficial functions in the body. However, if the appendix becomes inflamed or infected, it can lead to a condition known as appendicitis, which requires prompt medical attention.
