Bone Marrow

Bone marrow, or medulla ossium, is a soft, spongy tissue found inside bones, primarily in the long bones such as the femur, tibia, and humerus. It is responsible for the production of blood cells, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

There are two types of bone marrow: red marrow and yellow marrow. Red marrow contains hematopoietic stem cells that give rise to blood cells, while yellow marrow consists mainly of fat cells and serves as a storage site for nutrients.

Bone marrow plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy immune system and is often used in medical treatments such as bone marrow transplants for certain types of cancer and other blood-related diseases.
