Food Stressor Additives

Food additives are substances added to food products to improve their taste, texture, appearance, or shelf life. Some examples of food additives include preservatives, which help to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria in food; colorings, which improve the appearance of food products; flavor enhancers, which improve the taste of food products; and emulsifiers, which help to mix ingredients that do not naturally mix together.

While some food additives may be consumed without adverse effects, others may be harmful to the body. Food additives that can stress the body include sugar, aspartame, MSG, nitrates, artificial colors, corn syrup, hydrogenated vegetable oil, and more. It is important to read food labels and understand the purpose of the additives included in food products.
