Percussor

The percussor is a mechanical device that delivers waves of percussion impulses (with a “drive” similar to a jackhammer) deep into the myofascial tissues of the body. This promotes increased blood and lymphatic flow, decreases muscle spasms, relieves muscle pain, releases the stagnant gel present between the muscle fibers, and successfully treats post-exertion muscle fatigue.

Percussion’s pressure and tension on the muscular system engage neuro myofascial release and influence the autonomic nervous system, affecting not only the cardiorespiratory, endocrine, skeletal, and nervous systems but ultimately all systems of the body.

Neuromechanically, these effects are significant to help decrease the overall consequences of physical and emotional stress. The percussor has a variable frequency setting and usually is used at the same frequency of middle “C” on the piano, which is the same frequency as our fascia.

Myofascial percussion therapy applications include:
• Post-exertion muscle fatigue
• Myalgia (muscle pain)
• Musculoskeletal pain and dysfunctions
• Myofascial restrictions and adhesions
• Muscle spasms
• Restricted range of motion
• Muscle imbalance
• Neuromuscular inefficiency
• Myofascial trigger points
• Adhesions and scar tissue
