Pharynx

‘The pharynx is a muscular tube-shaped structure that forms part of the digestive and respiratory systems. It is located behind the nasal cavity, mouth, and larynx, and extends from the base of the skull to the esophagus and trachea.

The pharynx serves as a passageway for air, food, and liquids. It is lined with a mucous membrane that produces mucus to help moisten and protect the tissues. The pharynx is also involved in the process of swallowing, as it helps move food from the mouth to the esophagus.
