TCM – Spleen Meridian

The spleen meridian is connected to the spleen and pancreas, which are responsible for cleansing the blood and providing the digestive enzymes and energy required by the stomach. Weak limbs and muscular atrophy are believed to be indications of deficient spleen energy.

According to TCM, the spleen meridian houses the body’s thoughts and intentions. It is also connected with the negative emotions of worry, pensiveness, regret, remorse, obsession, and self-doubt. Its positive attributes include trust, honesty, acceptance, and balance.

Overall, there are 21 points on the spleen meridian. The meridian starts from the big toe and runs up the inner leg, passing through the spleen, stomach, diaphragm, heart, and ending at the tongue. Specifically, it begins at the medial aspect of the big toe and runs along the medial aspect of the foot, ankle, and leg. It then ascends the inner thigh and passes through the groin and the lower abdomen, eventually reaching the chest and connecting with the heart and lung meridians. From there, it ascends to the throat and ends at the tip of the tongue.

A branch from the stomach goes upward through the diaphragm as well, and flows into the heart to link with the heart meridian.
