Hazardous Air Pollutants

Hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), also known as air toxics, are pollutants that are known or suspected to cause serious health effects or environmental damage. HAPs are released into the air through human activities such as industrial processes, transportation, and energy production.

Examples of hazardous air pollutants include:
