Discover the Energy Within: Understanding Chakras for Wellness
Some may think “chakras” are limited to mental or spiritual energy. But did you know: each chakra can have an influence over physical health, too?
The truth is that each chakra doesn’t just balance us emotionally or spiritually. Each one corresponds with certain physical systems, symptoms, even home remedies and essential oils to match — and may help balance wellness by way of spiritual well-being.
New to chakras? What are chakras? Read on to learn more about this increasingly popular wellness modality, the concepts of chakras, and how ZYTO Link can help you.
What are Chakras?
Chakras are thought to be “energy centers” in the body, positioned at certain points along the spine. There are seven in all though and in some spiritual modalities there can be more— or sometimes less.
The origin of chakras comes from Buddhist or Hindu practices. Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning “wheel,” indicating these chakras are powerful “spinning” energy centers inside our bodies. They are also thought to be where other energy channels and lines in the body all intersect — and thus hold a lot of power and influence on body and spirit.
But what are the chakras in terms of our personal wellness? Each chakra correlates with specific physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual states in ancient practice. Balancing each in relation to one’s current well-being, with certain methods, can help one “align” better with higher health, energy, and other aspects for a good life.
The Seven Chakras and Their Roles
Root Chakra (Muladhara)
This is the lowermost chakra located right at the tailbone. This chakra deals with one’s physicality, survival instincts, and grounding to the material world. It is associated with the color red.
When out of balance or “blocked” as some say, the root chakra can bring issues of insecurity, lack of safety, and issues with scarcity or not meeting our most basic needs — financial, emotional, and so on. In some beliefs this can manifest as physical issues like bladder, colon, or lower digestive imbalances.
Recommended balancing approaches: Grounding practices and yoga poses – earthy essential oils like cedarwood, vetiver, sandalwood, myrrh
Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana)
This chakra rules core emotional states: pleasure, desire, sexuality, and creativity according to some. Its color is orange and it rests just below the navel, at the pelvis.
When the sacral chakra is blocked or out of balance you may experience low libido, lack of creativity, or excessive emotions — which could manifest as U.T.I.’s, back pain, or sexual dysfunction.
Recommended balancing approaches: Meditation and mindfulness, creative or artistic activities – essential oils like orange, ylang-ylang, coriander
Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)
The solar plexus chakra is found in its namesake: the “solar plexus” or upper abdomen and belly, at the navel. Its color is yellow and it influences “personal fire,” confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth.
Problems with this chakra could bring low self-esteem and coincide with digestive issues, self-doubt, and procrastination.
Recommended balancing approaches: Meditation and mindfulness, positive daily affirmations — ginger, lemongrass, or rosemary essential oils
Heart Chakra (Anahata)
Anahata is the heart chakra, associated with the color green. Located at the chest or heart it rules love, compassion, and empathy — when blocked or imbalanced, one may experience jealousy, grief, lack of connection with others, or people pleasing tendencies.
These can arise as heart or weight issues, though heart chakra imbalance tends to be related to emotional or mental health.
Recommended balancing approaches: Gratitude journaling, forgiveness exercises, essential oils like rose, lavender, or jasmine
Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)
Not surprisingly you’ll find the throat chakra right at the throat or neck. Its color is blue and it deals with communication skills, authenticity, and relationships to truth or one’s true self.
Imbalances of a blocked throat chakra may manifest as difficulty communicating, speaking up, gossiping, or throat and upper respiratory issues.
Recommended balancing approaches: Journaling, therapy, singing — eucalyptus, peppermint, or chamomile essential oils
Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)
Between the eyes or eyebrows, the third eye chakra is said to rule deep intuition and abilities to sense the unseen or “unobvious.” It is the color indigo (purple-blue).
Blocked or imbalanced third eye chakras lead to headaches, difficulty concentrating, or feeling out of touch with one’s intuition — and even one’s spiritual meaning or purpose.
Recommended balancing approaches: Dream work, visualization practices, active imagination — sandalwood, patchouli, frankincense, or cypress essential oils
Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)
The crown chakra can be found at the very top of the head, hence its name. Purple or white in color, it is associated with the highest level of consciousness and enlightenment: maintaining a higher spiritual perspective on daily events.
When blocked, you may face issues with narrow-mindedness, isolation from the world, and maybe even skepticism, doubt, or loss of hope. It may manifest as nervous system issues.
Recommended balancing approaches: Renewing spiritual practice or study, meditation — juniper, lavender, or lotus essential oils
